With Halloween right around the corner (and one of our favorite holidays to craft), it’s time to make some bats! These paper puppets are super fun to play with (we know we’ve designed a lot already).

While most of our previous paper puppets have fun looking templates (this one does too), for this one we highly recommend skipping the template and just using black paper as the craft base. Your child will be able to easily fold this puppet with or without the craft template.

Are you ready to make a bat puppet? Let’s do it!

How to make a paper bat puppet

What you need:

Optional: coloring tools if you are working with our template

Step by step instructions

If using our template, print it out (heavy duty paper is better, regular printer paper will do).

Color the parts of the pattern.

Fold in three along the dotted line.

If working without a template, fold in three (doesn’t have to be exact).

Glue the last third section onto the first section.

Fold the “paper tube” in half.

And fold those two halves in half to form an M shape.

The M shape will look like this.

Cut out a red tongue and glue it to the puppet.

Cut out two white circles for eyes and glue them onto the bat.

Draw black dots inside the eyes.

Cut out two large fangs and glue them inside the mouth.

Finally cut a pair of wings and attach them to your puppet.
