When I was a kid, there was a birdhouse in every tree around my house (and there were a lot of them), my grandfather really enjoyed making them, and I added my own creations every year. He made them all from natural materials, mine on the other hand were made from whatever I thought could be used to make them, which sometimes resulted in them just being what they should be on a day ha! But it was always fun.

DIY Colorful Bird House

Raw materials

  • FunChalk Markers (I was given these to try)
  • wooden bird houses, I bought from the dollar store for a sturdier option, you can choose the cute Gazebo bird house or these bird houses
  • black acrylic paint
  • brush (super fast sponge brush)
  • spray sealant (optional, perfect if you’ll be placing this bird house outside)

Paint the house black and let it dry completely (usually takes about 20 minutes with acrylic paint). The house will look gloomy right now, but that’s about to change. Get out your chalk and decorate!

Draw shapes and doodle to create a fun and vibrant piece of art. I really like the FunChalk markers because the colors have a very fluorescent feel to them, which makes them pop against the black background, don’t you think?

We also made some cute hearts for Valentine’s Day with these.
