You can make this using yellow cardstock or even have your child dip their hands in yellow paint to make wings.

How to make a handprint chick craft

What you need:

  • yellow construction paper
  • orange construction paper
  • 2 split pins
  • drag
  • glue
  • pencil
  • big googly eyes or marker to draw eyes

Step by step instructions

Start by tracing around your hand with a pencil. Fold the paper in half so you can cut out two handprints at once.

Cut out the hand shape.

Punch holes in the palm print (use a hole punch or punch holes with a pencil, toothpick, or similar tool).

Let’s create the chick’s body. You can draw or use a circular or oval object to draw around it.

Cut out the circle.

Punch two holes, one on the left side of the chick’s body and one on the right side of the chick’s body.

Grasp the split pin and push it through the hole in the wing.

Next, push it through one of the holes in the body and separate the pins on the other side, securing the wing in place.

Repeat on the other side.

Glue on a pair of eyes or draw them.

Cut the beak out of orange paper (fold in half and cut out a triangle or cut out a diamond and fold in half again).

Also cut off a pair of feet.

Stick the beak to the body.

Place your feet behind your body.

Done! You have completed your Handprint Chick Craft and now the chick can happily hop around and move its little wings.

The boy is so happy.
