Valentine’s Day is famous for its theme of red, hearts, kisses and expressing feelings to the one you love. And on this occasion, we have prepared a craft that perfectly depicts these words.

With this project, we will spread the love with a lovely Valentine gift box with a heart hanging inside.

Kids will enjoy cutting out and coloring the entire template in their own colors and gluing the box together once finished.

This cute heart box made of paper is very simple and easy to make.

Or follow the step-by-step instructions below

Print out our Valentine’s Day paper box template on heavier or regular printer paper (you can get the template at the end of this tutorial).

Use your best colored pens and color the template – this time we used red and yellow markers.

Use scissors to cut the frame of the template to look nice.

You will need to cut two blank squares on the template. These squares will be the “windows” of the box. To make cutting easier, you can fold the template in half and cut out the first blank square.

To cut the second window, fold the template to size and cut the second blank square out of the template.

Cut out two hearts, flip them over and color the other side. Make a nice cut along the dotted lines down the center of each heart.

You need to create sharp creases along the edges. Using a craft stick will help (or some other tool you have available).

Continue folding all the edges of the box.

Continue with these steps

Cut a short piece of string and tie a knot at the end – you will need it to hang the heart inside the box.

Thread the string (knotted part) through the heart-shaped incision you made in the previous 4 steps.

Now, insert the second heart (with the opposite incision) into the heart with the string.

Apply glue to the edges of the box.

Time to put the box back together. We want to leave the flapless side on the end intact – this makes closing the box much easier.

Before closing the box, you need to tape the wire to the center of the closed side (the side without the lid). We used masking tape to do this.

Apply more glue to the edges (if needed).

Now gently close the box.

Your paper heart box is now complete.
