How to Make Doll Fairy Wings Tutorial

If your child already has a lot of dolls (or one) and none of them have fairy wings and they want one, you can easily make it happen without having to buy a new doll! This tutorial on how to make fairy wings for dolls will show you how to make a kid-friendly version – no wire or plastic needed!

Older kids can easily do this project on their own while younger kids will need help – but most of them can do it on their own!

How to make fairy wings for dolls

What you need:

  • see-through fabric – we used an old window curtain (dollar store quality), but tulle works just as well as any other see-through fabric.
  • mod podge (or white glue diluted with water)
  • drag
  • permanent marker
  • small hair clips (jaw clips or clips – whatever you call them)
  • glitter (optional)
  • clear plastic paper or tinfoil – which mod podge won’t stick too
  • super glue

Start by placing the fabric on clear plastic paper and covering it with mod glue. Let it dry completely. Depending on the fabric, you will have to do this on both sides or in multiple layers to harden the fabric. Once you are happy with the result it is time to draw a wing – just one thing to do as all you have to do is fold the fabric in half to get the “wings” as shown on the image below . You will need two sets.

Now we’ll use a permanent marker to draw in some wing details – again depending on your fabric, you’ll only have to do this on one wing (if the fabric is truly transparent) or on both sides. When you’re done gluing the wings together – so that from a “double” wing you only have one wing – with a permanent marker on the inside (it looks better this way). For a little extra magic, add some sparkle to the wings (you can also add some gems if you have them).

Now that you have decorated both wings, it’s time to use super glue and stick them onto the hairpin.

All done! Now you can clip the wings to your doll – if the doll’s clothes are loose enough, you can easily clip them to the clothes, otherwise, you can just clip them onto the doll’s hair – either way will look great! This way, your child (or you hehe) can easily put them on the doll and take them off easily.
