We love making crafts and fun activities for kids with leaves, because after all, leaves are one of nature’s most economical craft materials. And so versatile!
This time, we combined leaves with another fun kid craft, super-budget paper plates – and created all sorts of fun hairstyles and faces. Paper plate activities for kids are the best!
There are really no rules about how you can do this and certainly no rules about which leaves to use – choose as many different types of leaves as you can to give your child or student (this is great for preschool or kindergarten) as many open-ended projects as possible. You could even turn this into a “self-portrait” art activity!
Make sure the leaves are dry before you start this craft, especially if you want to keep this craft project for display – as leaves that are not completely dry will wrinkle and curl over time, whereas dry leaves will hold their shape.
We dry the leaves by placing them between sheets of newspaper and weighing them down with books. We also take care to pick the leaves after a few sunny days, never immediately after a rainy day.
What you need
Any other decorations are welcome, we think our little face would look great with a little bow in her hair. Ready for some fall crafting fun? Let’s get started!
Paint the paper plate. We like to use foam brushes because they are quick and easy to paint.
After painting, let the paint dry.
Use your hand (or something) to press down on the glue to let it set and dry a bit.
This craft project is a great art activity for kids to do in the classroom because if you provide a variety of craft materials, they will really get creative with their creations.
With thousands of printable crafts, activities, worksheets, coloring pages, and drawing tutorials, you’ll always have the resources you need at your fingertips. Perfect for parents and teachers alike!
