We love moving paper dolls, they are just one of those crafts that are pretty easy to make and so much fun to play with.
And when it comes to these dolls, butterflies are one of the best because you can really make them fun and colorful.
Not to mention watching them in action, running around and flapping their wings, what could be better.
Just pull the string and make the wings move.
What you need:
Print butterfly paper dolls – black and white or pre-colored.
If you print in black and white, the first thing to do is colorize the print.
Next cut out the two wings and body of the butterfly.
Holes – two holes on each wing and two holes on the body.
Depending on the age of the child you are working with, this step may be done by you. You can use a variety of objects to punch the holes – a skewer, a pen, or even a pushpin as long as you have a soft surface to place the template on and punch the holes.
Let’s assemble the paper doll. Start with a split pin.
For the wing, the split pin goes through the inside hole (the hole with the white dot). Take note of this.
Push the split pin through the hole in the body and butterfly wings. Spread the pin out to secure.
The front will look like this.
Do the same with the other one.
Next is the wire. Thread the wire through the hole on one wing (black dot) and through the hole on the other wing.
Tie the string tightly. Make sure the “loop” is not too small. It is better to have a loop that is too big than one that is too small.
Done! Your paper butterfly mobile is complete. If you want, you can also glue craft sticks to the back.
With thousands of printable crafts, activities, worksheets, coloring pages, and drawing tutorials, you’ll always have the resources you need at your fingertips. Perfect for parents and teachers alike!
