What you need
The first few photos show a black sock – you will need to use a white sock – this black sock is from another handmade sock tutorial we have – the process is similar.
Start by stuffing your white sock with rice. You’ll need a pretty large amount (we were surprised at how much rice we could fit into a sock).
Once you are happy with the number (and size) of your sock snowman, secure the top with a rubber band.
Take another rubber band and place it in the middle – near the top – of the rice-stuffed sock to form a head shape.
Now glue the buttons to the bottom using a glue gun (glue dots work pretty well too).
Draw the mouth and eyes with a black marker or black paint.
We also added blush (Crayola washable paint is great for this). We made the nose out of two orange pom poms – it turned out great.
Add a ribbon to the scarf – we found that glue and a hot glue gun worked best for ribbon, while other types of glue didn’t work. You can cut off the excess white stocking (or you can stuff it into the hat we’ll make next).
Cut out a colored sock (we cut the legs, not the heel). Roll it up a bit and place it on the head of your snowman. You can leave it as is or you can secure it with a little glue.
This sock snowman is ready to use.
