Paper Plate Pumpkin Craft

Are you ready for the coolest pumpkin paper plate craft? This kids Halloween craft will be the center of attention as it looks almost like a real carved pumpkin, the awesome little tea candle (battery operated) will make a magical Halloween addition.

Kids get excited about Halloween and pumpkin carving. Real pumpkins can be pretty messy, not to mention the carving process isn’t exactly kid-friendly.

However, these Halloween paper plate crafts are a fun and safer alternative. They can easily be displayed in a window and make a great Halloween display for kids.

How to make pumpkin paper plate crafts

What you need:

two paper plates
black paint
orange paint
tealight candle (battery operated)
green pipe cleaner (you can skip it or replace it with green paper) – some tape to secure the pipe cleaner
drag
glue
pencil (or similar)

Step by step instructions

You can make this craft with small paper plates or large paper plates. We made it with smaller paper plates.

Paint the inside of the paper plate (the part where you put the food) black.

Paint the back of the paper plate orange.

Allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next step.

Place the paper plates on top of each other – black parts facing each other. Cut a straight line (see image below).

Using a pencil (or marker), draw a pumpkin face on one of the paper plates.

Cut out. For the easiest (and safest) cut, have your child punch a hole (with a pencil or similar object) through the mouth, eyes, and nose if they can, and use that hole as a starting point for cutting.
