I’d like to say I’m a shoe box hoarder but the reality is I love shoes! Not too much but enough so that we have a few spare boxes and can make some adorable shoe box crafts like this story box!
So if you have a shoe box or two, give it a makeover!
Boxes with attached lids are the best choice for a project like this but if you have a lid that is separate from the box then you just need a little more finesse to make it work (aka Glue the straw to the box!)
We decided to do a “Little Red Riding Hood” theme!
To make one yourself, you will need:
So I started by drawing the design in pencil (easier to color in than “freehand”). I divided the box into two parts – one for nature (gras, mountains and sky) and one for grandma’s house and drew a road on the lid. To bring life to grandma’s house, we used an eraser on a pencil as a stamp to make small orange circles. To make the window more fancy, we even added curtains from scrap fabric (coincidentally, a curtain).
I cut a piece of cardboard to make a divider between nature and grandma’s house and glued it there (optional but more attractive if you ask me!)
If you have any toys that are suitable for Little Red Riding Hood, you can complete the project right here, otherwise, or you and your child need manual repair, you can continue creating characters Your very own Little Red Riding Hood character!
You can make “just like” ones we made when I created a template that you can print and use
