Valentine’s Day is a great day for all things heart-related – from simple crafts to cute cards and art projects. But spreading love should be a “year-round” thing.
This art project is quite simple to do and you can do it as an individual art/craft project or in a group/class.
It can be made by hand or with a heart punch. It can be a heart shape with a message. You can use colored paper or let the kids make their own decorated hearts and cut them out however they like. So, so many options.
This idea would make a really cute classroom door decoration, with kids creating their own hearts and signing them – all beautifully displayed on the tree.
What you need:
For small version
Heart shaped punch option
Use to decorate classroom doors or bulletin boards (perfect for kindergartens and preschools and more)
Start with a sheet of white (or other colored) background paper.
Use a black or brown marker to draw a tree. Draw the branches.
You can also use paint and draw the tree on the fabric.
Take a piece of colored paper and fold it (almost like the illustration below).
Cut out a heart shape (half a heart).
Don’t know how to make a heart? You can easily make one (no skills required) by drawing a number 2 on the fold and cutting out that number.
To make the tree more colorful, use different colors.
Also, make hearts of different shapes (unless using a paper punch).
Apply glue to the heart shape…
…and glue them onto the tree branch. One by one until you are happy with how the tree looks.
Children can make hearts in any color they want.
If you do these as a class, you can create the most amazing bulletin board with them.
What could be better than this when it comes to craftsmanship.
You can also make a giant heart and have each child create a heart and write their name inside (or use a picture).
Other variations:
Instead of using colored paper, let your child color the paper themselves to make heart-shaped leaves.
Use handprints for trees.
Make it in large size for a beautiful decoration for your home or classroom.
Write cute messages on each heart that you stick on the tree using art paper.
With thousands of printable crafts, activities, worksheets, coloring pages, and drawing tutorials, you’ll always have the resources you need at your fingertips. Perfect for parents and teachers alike!
