Spring is the perfect time of year to make insect crafts, and we love them. We’ve shared some caterpillar craft ideas and will have a few more in the coming days.
If you are considering this craft with a preschooler or kindergartener, you will need adult assistance. Since there is a lot of cutting involved, this craft is a great fine motor skill exercise for kids.
This is also a great project for the older generation.

Or follow the step by step instructions in the picture
Print out the caterpillar craft templates. You can find them at the end of this tutorial.
Place a red sheet of paper and a green sheet of paper into your printer and print the file. This is optional of course. This craft is super cute if you just do it yourself.
Cut out a square of green paper. Fold along the straight line (small rectangle – if you look at the image below, the straight line is on the right side). Now cut along all the dotted lines. Cut, cut, cut.
Once all the strips are cut, fold them over (along the non-broken lines). Make a crease and unfold them all.
Now it’s time to make your loops. You can start on either side and glue one strip at a time, forming each loop. Let the glue set.
Cut a head shape out of red (or yellow, or whatever color) paper. Cut a whisker shape out of green scrap paper.
Glue the head shape to both sides of the “loop tunnel”.
Glue them together at the top.
Your lovely caterpillar is ready to move!
