Decorating pumpkins is one of the most fun things about Halloween. While classic carved pumpkins look great, especially when lit with candles, uncarved pumpkins are becoming more and more popular. Why? They’re easy to make and leave a lot of room for creativity.

You can use real pumpkins or craft pumpkins to make them (real pumpkins are great but craft pumpkins you can reuse next year and grow your painted pumpkin collection)

We share a collection of pumpkin painting and no carving ideas to spark your creativity as there are millions of ways you can decorate them.

Tip: how to paint pumpkins – what kind of paint should you use to paint pumpkins?

If you need to paint the entire pumpkin, spray paint or craft paint will do the trick.

Smaller areas are best painted with acrylic craft paint. This will not wash off in the rain if you plan to display your painted pumpkins outside.

Pumpkin Drawing Ideas

Since fall is scarecrow season, this seems appropriate. You don’t have to paint the entire pumpkin.

Hair can be made of felt or tissue paper (napkin :)), face paint or use felt. Last but not least, find an old straw hat, decorate with a leaf or a sunflower and the pumpkin is ready to display.

Homemade Unicorn Pumpkin

Unicorn Pumpkin Drawing Ideas

Unicorns are all the rage lately and the same goes for decorating pumpkins. There are lots of ways you can decorate them – we painted our pumpkins white, added pink cheeks and closed eyes (with natural eyelashes).

The mane is made from tissue paper and the horn and ears are from an old unicorn Halloween costume hair band. Add floral details to make it all the more magical.

Rainbow Fish Pumpkin Decoration Ideas

Rainbow Fish Pumpkin Making Ideas

From the first time I read The Rainbow Fish to this day, this is still my favorite childhood book. Just like the book, this decorated pumpkin looks magical. The shiny and sparkling scales are mesmerizing. Done by Molly Reed.

Witch Pumpkin Decorating Ideas

Witch Pumpkin Drawing Ideas

Make a fun evil witch! To make this witch, we painted a pumpkin green and let it dry completely. Hair was made from tissue paper (napkins), felt is also great. If you are going to display the pumpkin inside, you can make a hat out of paper, otherwise we recommend buying a hat from the store (or a fabric hat). We used a green pom pom for the nose, which, if you ask us, makes a difference with this pumpkin painting idea.

Cactus pumpkin

Pumpkin Cactus Drawing Ideas

This is a simple and fun game that requires you to quickly go to a dollar store, buy a cheap basket if you don’t have one, green paint, fake flowers (we used a wreath/necklace), and white pom poms.

Paint the pumpkin with green acrylic paint. Let the paint dry. Glue white pom poms on for spikes. Attach flowers to the top and place your cactus pumpkin in the basket.

Bat pumpkin

Paint the pumpkin bat and add details. If this bat will be displayed inside, you can make paper wings and ears. For an outside display, black craft foam is best.

Pastel Stripes

If you want something simple but stunning, make pastel painted pumpkins. You will need two (or three) colors for each pumpkin.

Choose a darker shade and a pastel shade of the same color family. Follow the stripes on the pumpkin as a guide or paint the stripes yourself.

Pumpkin Pikachu

Pikachu pumpkin drawing ideas

If you have a Pokemon lover at home, why not make some this Halloween? You won’t be able to catch them all (or will you?) but it’s definitely fun to make a few. For Pikachu, paint the pumpkin with yellow acrylic paint or yellow spray paint. For indoor pumpkins, you can use construction paper to add details (and a hot glue gun to attach them).

Black and white painted pumpkin no carving required

If you want to add a little elegance to your porch or house this Halloween, you can paint it black and white.

You will need a good quality white paint for this pumpkin (it should not be transparent and not watered down) so that it looks good when painted over with the white paint. If your white paint is not the best, you will need to apply more than one coat (you can also change the paint, have a white base and add black details). If you are keeping the pumpkin indoors, you can also paint it with black paint and use a white chalk marker.

Lion decoration ideas

The lion is another easy idea, you can choose a natural color or paint the pumpkin yellow. The mane is made of tissue paper or felt and the ears are also made of felt.

Friendly Pumpkin Clown Drawing Ideas

Clowns are strange characters – you can make a clown that’s super cute or something that’s a nightmare. And it’s pretty easy to make it the stuff of nightmares. We think closed eyes with lashes are the safest bet when it comes to making your clown cute and friendly.

Emoji Pumpkin Decoration
