So you’ve had fun playing with our ladybug and butterfly hand puppets and still can’t get enough? Next up in our series is the bee! (there are two more to go!).

Bees are amazing! They work incredibly hard and I’m sure you and your kids have realized that without these yellow and black creatures, we’d be in trouble.

Having a lesson about bees in your classroom (especially kindergarten)? We know this craft activity would make a fun addition to the lesson. Each child can create their own puppet and, imagine them all running around and buzzing.

Like it? Let’s do it!

You can get the pattern for this craft at the end of this tutorial.

Print the template. We printed the template on thicker printer paper when coloring with markers (markers will bleed through and wrinkle regular printer paper). If your child will be using crayons to color the template, regular printer paper will work well.

If you decide to use the “coloring” method, it is best to color the parts of the pattern first.

Cut out all parts of the pattern.

If working with construction paper, draw the bee’s body parts on construction paper. The bee’s body is on yellow construction paper (striped with a black marker), the legs are on black paper, the wings are on light blue paper, and the stinger is also on black paper.

Glue the wings to the body of the bee. Fold them over a bit (and crease them) to make them easier to move.

Folding legs – accordion style.

Glue them to the body (bottom side). Glue the nib too.
