Candy Cane Craft

Candy canes are a Christmas staple. This candy cane craft is great for kids because it focuses a lot on fine motor skills and the end result is so cute.

These can even be used as Christmas decorations, just add a little string to them when the kids make them.

Chenille Stick Candy Cane Craft

How to make handmade candy cane

What you need:

  • drag
  • chenille bar/pipe cleaner
  • seeds (white and red)

Tip: You can buy white paper beads at craft stores and paint half of them red or wood beads and paint them accordingly.

Step-by-step instructions

You need a pipe cleaner/chenille stick for a candy cane. Green is a great color to choose but any other color will do as the stick won’t really be visible.

Step 1

Twist the end a little so the seeds don’t fall out.

Have your child string the first bead onto the chenille stick.

Step 2

Continue adding beads – swapping between red and white beads.

Step 3

Continue adding beads.

Step 4

We use eight white beads and seven red beads.

Don’t forget to twist the end when your child adds the last bead to ensure the bead doesn’t slide out.

Step 5

Trim off excess chenille stick if necessary.

Step 6

Have your child shape the chenille bar into a stick shape, mimicking the iconic candy cane shape.

Step 7

All done! You can hang it on the tree or give it as a cute holiday gift.

Step 8

You can make a bunch of them!
