Caterpillars are very small and do not make any noise. We love them.

They eat continuously so they can grow and then turn into lovely butterflies and moths and fly away.

Amazing creatures, right?

And guess what?

Today we came up with this idea and made a cute math caterpillar for you.

Assembly is easy and makes counting fun.

Hope you enjoy it.

How to make a counting worm

What you need:

  • colored paper (cardboard)
  • round hole punching machine
  • split leg
  • a pom pom
  • two bulging eyes
  • glue
  • tick

Let’s create!

Step by step instructions

Punch out 10 circles using a circle punch.

Write a number from one to ten in each circle.

Use a split pin to join the circles – thread them through the front…

…and secure them in the back.

Repeat with all remaining circles.

Punch another circle using the circle punch.

Apply some glue to the fake eyes and stick them on.

Draw a nose and mouth with a felt pen.

Use a split pin to attach the top to the rest of the circles.

Apply a little glue to the pom-pom and attach it to your head like hair.

Done!

Now you can start counting and playing with your caterpillar.

You can even shrink it, close the circles, and then expand it again.
