Curly Hair Clown Craft Idea

Clowns are fun all year round, and if your classroom has a circus theme, we know you and your kids will love this curly-haired clown craft idea (with template).

All clowns have big red noses and funny, silly hair, and that’s what clowning is all about.

Your kids can make this as colorful as they want; It’s a great project to use up leftover colored paper from all your other craft projects.

A circus theme can be a fun one, and clowns are one of the more fun crafts for kids you can make when you have this theme.

How to make curly hair for a clown

What you need:

  • our printable template (optional) or hand-drawn clown face
  • white printing paper
  • Cardboard paper of any color
  • drag
  • glue

Step-by-step instructions

Prepare a cardboard of your choice. We use white cardstock as the background.

Print out the version your child likes – choose the black and white version if they like to color, or use the full-color clown face if they want to get started with their craft right away.

Have the children cut out the clown’s face.

Then, ask them to draw the clown’s face from one ear to the top of the head and then to the other ear with a pencil. This will make doing your hair easier.

Apply glue below the pencil line.

Glue colorful paper strips for the clown’s hair.

We used a variety of colors – orange, pink, green, blue and red, but children can use any other color they choose.

Starting with a strip on the outside, create a curl.

Then add a little glue to the end of the strip.

And glue the end to the cardboard so it curls up and stays in place.

Repeat these steps with all the paper strips to create a clown hairstyle.

Apply glue to the clown’s face.

The curly-haired clown is completed! We love how it turned out!
