Want to make some fall glass jar crafts? There’s no more fun project than making a cute scarecrow (you can totally make a pretty scary one).

This little guy would make the ultimate fall decoration, even in the classroom (hint, it would make a great homemade pencil holder).

There are many ways you can decorate your scarecrow mason jar, but we really hope you go ahead and add a sunflower because it makes all the difference. It will brighten up the room it’s placed in and lift the mood on the gloomiest of days (because we all know fall can be a bit gloomy).

Ready to make your own fall perfume jars? Let’s make one (or a dozen).

How to Make a Scarecrow Mason Jar

What you need:

  • glass jar
  • Acrylic craft paint tan, cream, black and orange
  • fake hay
  • burlap ribbon
  • big round eyes
  • fake sunflowers
  • permanent black marker
  • paint brush
  • glue gun (low temperature glue gun if you are doing crafts with young children)
  • drag

Any other decorations are welcome.

Step by Step Guide to Making a Scarecrow Mason Jar

Lay out a sheet of newspaper or scrap paper before you begin. Paint the outside of the Mason jar tan with a large flat-tipped paintbrush and let dry.

Using a smaller paintbrush, paint a triangular nose in the center of the front of the Mason jar with orange paint.

Using a black marker or paint, draw/paint a wavy smile under the nose with a few dashes across the smile, as well as around the nose.

Then, paint two small cream circles for the cheeks on each side of the smile.

Now carefully glue the two bulging eyes above the nose using a hot glue gun.

Cut two sets of 10 straw strands about 3-4 inches long and tie the strands together with another piece of straw to make hair and carefully glue to each top of the Mason jar.

Measure and cut a piece of burlap to fit the mouth of the Mason jar and secure with glue.

Glue the sunflower to the top left corner of the burlap and your scarecrow is done!
