Have you ever been to an aquarium? What was your favorite creature to see there? Our favorite was the “sea monster” – the octopus.

They have eight tentacles and a bulging head. And did you know they have three hearts and nine brains?

Isn’t that great?

When threatened, they will spray an inky liquid from their bodies to distract invaders.

That way, they have time to swim away quickly.

They also change color and camouflage themselves around rocks under the ocean.

The octopuses we’re going to show you today are incredibly small, incredibly playful, and incredibly easy to make.

They can’t hurt you if you hold them in your hand, they don’t spit out ink colored liquid and they smile a lot so they will bring brightness to your home.

How to make simple paper octopus crafts

What you need:

  • blue cardboard
  • drag
  • colored paper
  • two bulging eyes
  • glue
  • a round hole punch
  • black outline
  • pink pencil

Let’s create!

Step by step instructions

Cut an 8×8 square from blue cardboard.

Use scissors to cut 1 cm wide lines.

Be careful to leave a 1cm gap at the end and not cut all the way through the cardboard.

Start rolling the stripes up to form tentacles…

… until you get to the last one.

Apply a little glue to one end and close the circle.

Use a circle punch to punch a circle into the colored paper.

Cut ¼ of that circle.

That would be the head.

Apply some glue and attach to the tentacle.

Glue two fake eyes to the head.

Draw a smile with black eyeliner.

Draw two cheeks with pink pencil.

Done!

Too easy right?

Now where will you put them?

That’s it for today.
