Many believe that it is the prairie dog that will tell us whether winter will last another six weeks or spring will come a little earlier.
We decided to make our own prediction by creating one ourselves.
You will be presented with an agamograph of a mole emerging from its burrow. From one angle, the adorable rodent is hidden behind the grass, and from the other side, you will see it standing high above it.
The appeal of creating this agamograph is that the alternating pieces of each image create the mesmerizing effect of a moving groundhog.
We colored the elements of each image the same color, so our mole stays in the same environment when viewed from different angles.
Choose between two versions of the Groundhog Day template – one that comes pre-folded, or a second version where kids need to cut out all the pieces and glue them alternately onto the template.

Follow the step-by-step instructions
Choose the version you like and print it out (templates are at the end of this guide).
Color the agamograph pieces with your best colored pens. We chose a yellow marker for the background of both alternating images to make the mole really stand out.
Use scissors to cut it out.
Use a skewer or any similar tool you can find at home and score along that line.
It’s time to start folding the agamograph. Use the accordion technique and make some sharp creases.
Continue folding…
…until the last piece of the “agamograph puzzle”.
Now gently unfold your Groundhog Day agamograph toy and you’re done!
