We love doing handprint crafts that go beyond your usual routine – painting your hands and pressing them in. These are not suitable for toddlers (unless you are making a keepsake for yourself or family members) as they will not be able to go through the process.
Most preschoolers will need help cutting but many preschoolers can make this handprint hedgehog craft on their own. It all depends on how good your child is with scissors.
We thought this craft project would be really fun to do in the classroom to use as a personalized bulletin board or classroom door decoration, with each student making their own handprint hedgehog.
What you need
Optional: vibrating eye patches or googly eyes because they’re super fun
Place your hand on a piece of brown cardboard.
Use a pencil or crayon to draw around your hand. Slowly draw around your palm and fingers. Remove your hand.
Cut out the silhouette of your hand. Gently and slowly.
Using a paintbrush, paint the “palm” beige. Allow the paint to dry before moving on to the next step.
Use a black marker to draw a nose and mouth. If you have googly eyes or vibrating eye patches, glue one on, otherwise draw on the eyes with a black marker.
Use a black marker to draw small lines on your finger (all in the same direction) to create spikes.
Awesome, you made a lovely handprint hedgehog.
