We’ve shared with you plenty of printable paper ring patterns (just check out these printable bug paper rings – they’re so much fun) and it’s time to offer something new to go with them. Try paper bracelets!

With Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day approaching, we thought it was appropriate to start the series with a heart.

While our paper rings are already designed and ready to wear, we thought hearts should have, well, something from the heart. That’s why this ring comes with a blank template that kids have to decorate themselves.

This would be a great DIY gift that kids can give to friends and family.

We’ve created a few different sizes to suit different age ranges but remember that not all printers print the same way (and keep the sizes the same) so try out sizes before making with kids (especially if you’ll be making these in a classroom).

If you need a larger size, stretch the paper strips – cut them in half and glue another strip of paper between the two halves for a longer bracelet. If you need a smaller bracelet, cut a piece of paper bracelet and glue the remaining strip of paper together. This is best done with clear tape.

How to make heart shaped paper bracelets for kids with our printable template

What you need:

  • our printable heart bracelet template (you can get it at the end of the tutorial – there are a few different sizes)
  • printer
  • thicker printing paper (recommended) or regular printing paper
  • coloring tools (colored pencils, markers, watercolors…)
  • drag
  • glue

Clear tape is optional – you can use it to reinforce the bracelet – by sticking it around the strap to make it more durable.

Step by step instructions

Print out our printable paper heart bracelet template (you can get the template at the end of this tutorial).

It is best to print them on thicker paper (100gms+, 70lb+). This will make them easier to colour in and less likely to tear when children create their own bracelets.

Each sheet of paper has two bracelets. Below the bracelets are two hearts to color/decorate.

If your child wants to make a solid color bracelet, they can color half of the heart on the bracelet itself, if they want more intricate designs, let them decorate and color the heart on the side of the bracelet.

This will make the final design of both halves neat.

Finished coloring? Are you happy with the design? Time to cut out the shapes.

You will need a bracelet base and a heart to make the bracelet. Cut them out.

Cut the colored heart in half (the heart has a dashed line, but depending on the color the dashed line may not be visible).

Glue two colored heart halves to the two heart halves on the bracelet.

Easy and simple. Let the glue dry for a while before continuing.

We don’t want the heart to move.

Take the bracelet and pull. Next to each half of the heart, you will see a dashed line running to the middle of the strip of paper.

Cut along that dotted line.

It’s time to put on the bracelet – this final step must be done on the hand, preferably by a classmate, teacher or parent as putting on the bracelet by yourself is somewhat difficult for young children (but not impossible).

You need to slide one gap (the slots you created along the dashed lines) into the other gap.
