This project was inspired by Truong Tre’s artistic owl concept.

When it comes to fall crafts for kids, there are plenty of themes to explore – from apples and making paper apple cards to leaf crafts and making crafts with animals like owls.

Does your child want to learn how to draw an owl? We have an easy-to-follow tutorial that shows you how to draw two different owls. Once finished, kids can color in a set of owl coloring pages to make the season even more fun! But let’s get back to doing this.

How to make owl crafts for kids

What you need:

  • pencil
  • drag
  • glue
  • black construction paper
  • White paper
  • colored paper (brown, yellow, orange, light orange and pink)
  • markers (brown, white and black)

Step-by-step instructions

Background

Cut a large circle from black construction paper. If you don’t have construction paper, you can use regular black paper and glue it onto cardboard or you can paint the cardboard with black paint. Dark blue is also suitable for this owl craft.

Step 1

Tree

Place a piece of brown paper on the edge of the circle and use the circle as a template to draw on the brown paper. Cut out the tree trunk shape and glue it to the black circle.

Step 2

Cut a branch-like shape from brown paper and glue it onto the tree trunk. The branch should be placed in the lower half of the circle.

Step 3

Moon

Cut a smaller yellow or white circle and glue it onto the branch. This will make the moon in the night sky.

Step 4

Owl

We will make an owl from an orange circle. This circle must be larger than the moon.

Fold the circle on the right side, making an owl’s wing. Do the same with the right side.

Step 5

Now, fold the top of the circle, just like you did with the right and left sides.

Step 6

Apply glue to the back of the owl’s body (or onto black paper) and stick it to the branch.

Step 7

Head

Cut two circles from white paper and one triangle from pink paper. Stick them on the owl’s head.

Use a black marker and draw two dots for eyes.

Step 8

Feet

Take a smaller beige rectangle and fold it in half.

Step 9

Draw a foot on the folded part and cut along the contour, this way you will get two owl feet that look the same.

Step 10

Stick your feet into your scene.

Step 11

Feathers

Let’s make this owl even more interesting. Cut triangles out of paper and glue them on or use a marker and draw any shape on the wings.

Step 12

Finishing steps

Use a brown marker to create texture for the tree.

Step 13

Use a white marker to draw small dots to create stars in the night sky.

Step 14

Now you have learned how to make owl crafts.

Step 15

Have fun crafting!
