Oh how much fun kids have with Halloween crafts, after all it is one of the happiest holidays. And this pumpkin printing activity was a success!
If you’re doing this Halloween art project in your classroom, be sure to grab our Halloween coloring sheets or here’s a tutorial on how to draw Jack O’Lantern for early finishers.
What you need:
Start by cutting the apple in half. Each student will only need half an apple to complete this project, however, if working with a larger group, you can ask children to swap apples to make larger or smaller pumpkins.
For kids who already have good fine motor skills, let them use a paintbrush to paint half an apple with orange paint. If you’re working with younger children (or a group), have them paint orange on a paper plate, tray or something similar and let them dip half an apple in it.
Once half the apple is covered in paint, one way or another, have your child press the apple down (painted side down) on the paper.
Ask them to carefully remove the apple from the paper. The first apple print was made.
Depending on the size of the paper (and apple), let your child make as many pumpkin shapes as they want. As much as possible.
You can have your child draw the outline of the tree trunk with a pencil (or skip this part).
Paint the trunk green. Additionally, this can also be easily done with a green chalk marker.
Let the paint dry before moving on to the next step.
We’re not done having fun yet.
Have the kids use black markers (chalk markers work great, but regular markers work too) and have them draw faces on printed Jack-o-lanterns their apple shape.
They can make them funny or they can make them scary, the choice is completely theirs.
We’ve designed a variety of Jack O’Lanterns and we believe they balance the cute and spooky – ideal for the Halloween season.
With thousands of crafts, activities, worksheets, coloring pages, and drawing guides to print, you’ll always have the resources you need at hand. Perfect for both parents and teachers!
