Ladybug String Art

We have another super simple string art for kids, this time we will be making a ladybug string art.

String art isn’t just for older kids, if you use yarn (or something similar), little hands will have no problem creating beautiful pieces.

I really like ladybugs, one of my favorite rare bugs. This wire art ladybug would be a beautiful decoration all year round.

What you need:

  • red yarn (used cherry red heart yarn)
  • black yarn (used black red heart yarn)
  • wooden board or board (8.5 x 5.5)
  • hammer nail
  • steel nail (use 18×3/4″)
  • drag
  • pencil
  • 4″ round shape like S shaped lid
  • optional wiggle eyes

Raw materials

Using a pencil and the circle template, draw a large circle for the ladybug’s body. The circle we drew was 4″ in diameter.Step 1

Use a pencil to draw the head, antennae and spots on the wood.

Nail the boards. Start with the shank points, then the body, then the head and beard. Nail about halfway into the board, keeping about a 1/2″ spacing.

progress-3

Start stringing the boards. Start from the head and beard. progress-4

Tie black yarn around one end of the nail and double knot. Leave the tail long.progress-5

Start zigzagging back and forth until you have covered the entire head. Bring the yarn to the whisker and wrap it around the entire nail head, then bring it to the next end, wrap it around that nail head, and so on. When you reach the end, reverse direction to sketch the whisker on the opposite side of the nail. Repeat for the other whisker.progress-6

You will also want to outline the shape of your head by doing the same thing as your beard. When finished, bring your yarn back to your starting point and double knot the starting tail and the ending yarn. Trim the tail.progress-7

Next, you will follow with the red yarn for the body. Zigzag stitch around and add a border to the outer circle of the body. Cut the yarn when finished.Final steps for this ladybug craft

The final part is the body circles. Starting with black yarn and a zigzag line, sketch out each circle, cutting the yarn after each round and starting a new round.
