Mommy and Me Salt Dough Hedgehog Craft

We forgot about Christmas for a bit with this adorable salt dough hedgehog craft from mom and baby!

Tis the season for salt dough decorations but not all of them need to be Christmassy.

Mother and Child Salt Dough Hedgehog Craft

Mommy and Me Salt Dough HedgeHog

Using the salt dough recipe from Santa’s salt dough ornaments. This hedgehog is made by tracing the hands of a mother and child, then placing them on top of each other.

Instruct

Prepare the salt dough according to the recipe – you can see the recipe we used here. Roll the dough into 2 circles. The circles should be about 1/2 inch thick and large enough for each hand you will use. Press each hand down firmly onto one circle, lifting off quickly.

Hedgehog Craft Process

Cut out a handprint from each hand, removing the thumb from the larger handprint. Place the smaller handprint on top of the larger handprint in the center. (see photo) Press down gently to adhere them together. Bake at 300°F for at least 1 hour. The dough will begin to dry and harden.

Using craft paint, color the bottom of the handprint light brown and the top dark brown. Create a face (see photo), get crafty, and make it your own!.

Now that my mom and I keepsake is done, why not make one for my dad and I too. This would make a great gift for grandparents – you could use the left hand for one parent and the right hand for the other.
