Painted Monster Rocks – Halloween Crafts for Kids

Got a pile of river rocks and wondering what to do with them? Well, a pile of painted monster rocks, of course, especially since Halloween is coming up.

These little birds will look cute when placed in your home.Painted Rock Monsters - Fun Halloween Crafts for Kids - Painted Rocks

What you need:

  • rocks, either collected on your hike or from the craft store/dollar store
  • acrylic paint (white, black and colored)
  • paint brush
  • pencil with eraser

Step 1

First, clean the rocks, removing any dirt. Once the rocks are clean and dry, paint them with acrylic paint. Depending on the brand and color, you may need to apply more than one coat (for example, I only had to apply one coat of blue but several coats of yellow). Let the paint dry.

Step 2

Now it’s time to work on the eyes. We did the eyes with the help of a pencil with an eraser. Dip the eraser in white paint and press it on the rick. Cute eyes everywhere. When the white paint dries, add a black spot. Continue creating your monster by adding more facial details – mouth, teeth, tongue, scars…

If you just used acrylic paint these babies are ready to go, otherwise you can use a little clear varnish to coat the color and make these painted monster rocks waterproof.
