When it comes to “seasonal” crafting, fall is one of my favorites because there are so many fun themes you can do. With Halloween right around the corner, a black cat crafting idea is definitely on the menu and as a cat lover, I couldn’t be more excited.

We’re kicking off this year’s cat craft ideas with a cute, simple, and creepy paper cone cat that you can make with or without our printable cat template.

We’ve made the template so you can use it as a coloring sheet or as a stencil to make paper cats (especially black cats!) Your child or you can decorate the cats however they want (we’d love to see a glitter cat – honestly, cat eyes with a little glitter would look awesome when we thought about it).

If you’re planning Halloween craft ideas, this is definitely one to add to your list – be it a classroom craft idea or to do at home with your kids (or by yourself ;).

Are you ready to do one or ten? Let’s do it together!

How to make a cat using our paper cat craft template

What you need:

  • our paper cat craft template (you can get it at the end of this tutorial)
  • paper – white printer paper if you will be coloring and additional colored paper if you will be using the template as a stencil
  • printer
  • markers or other coloring supplies if you will be coloring in a pattern
  • drag
  • glue

Additional decorations are always welcome: glitter, pipe cleaners for mustaches…

Or follow the step-by-step instructions below

Print out the paper cat craft template (you can get it at the end of this tutorial). If you are going to color the template, we recommend coloring it first.

Cut out all parts of the pattern.

*If using as a stencil, trace the sections on colored paper and cut them out.*

Take the tip and apply glue to the area marked “glue”.

Roll and glue together. Let the glue dry.

There is a cross marked with dashes at the top. Cut along the dashes.

Glue the ears to the head (fold along the dotted line).

Stick them into the squares with the dashed lines on top.

Take the stem and form it into a cone. Apply glue to the area marked with “glue”, roll it into a cone and let the glue harden.

Apply glue to the top, dashed cross section.

Place the tip into the cone and push down – the glue will secure the tip in place.

Now it’s time to decorate the cat!

Glue the cat’s tail to the back of your cone cat.

And little feet!

Done! You have made a wonderful paper cat craft! I hope you will enjoy using our paper cat craft template over and over again, creating all kinds of wonderful cats.
