Paper Plate Flower Weaving

Come spring! We really can’t wait and if you can’t wait for the flowers to start blooming try this paper plate jacquard weaving activity. This simple craft was inspired by Red Ted Art’s paper plate weaving project but we decided to do it a little differently.

Simple at first glance, this spring-inspired activity can take a twist and even require some problem solving!

The weaving process is very simple – the thread runs along the petals. It’s great if your paper flowers have an odd number of petals – this way children will just wander around and by as long as they want.

Now, if the number of petals is even (which is often the case) then things will be a bit difficult as if you went “under and across” as you get back to the first petal and are ready to start knitting Second you will see that the thread goes under the same petals (also across) as in the first weaving circle. Now the child will have to loop around a petal or change direction (make half a loop) to continue weaving. You can let them find the “solution” themselves. This will make this paper plate knitting activity even more fun (and creative).
