Paper Plate Snowman Craft
What you need to make a snowman
- paper plate
- medium black button
- big pink button
- white glitter or glitter
- mod podge glue
- puff paint
- paint brush
- Low temperature glue gun kids can use or regular white glue
Step by step instructions
Glue two black buttons to the top center of the paper plate for eyes.
Then, glue two pink buttons under the eyes and on each cheek. Of course, you can also paint them with pink and black paint – a round sponge brush will do the trick.
Brush a layer of Mod Podge onto the plate and sprinkle sugar or glitter over the Mod Podge.
We recommend using biodegradable glitter if you want to display your craft, as we don’t want any sweet-toothed bugs getting into our projects).
Use black puffy paint to connect the two buttons together with a wavy smile (you can also use a black marker to draw the smile, but you’ll have to do this before using the Mod Podge and sprinkling on the glue – this will also make the smile less obvious).
Alternatively, you can also use the small black buttons.
Next, draw a carrot shaped nose with orange puffy paint and let the plate dry.
Your paper plate snowman is finished. Isn’t it adorable? We love the snowy sparkle of this project.

Using different sized paper plates is a great way to make a paper plate snowman. Use a smaller paper plate for the head and a larger paper plate for the body. You can glue them together or staple them together.
Use ribbon to make a scarf. If you have an old winter hat that is in good condition, it will make a great addition to this fun project.
Your child can also use paper plates as fabric to make a snowman craft. Use blue paper plates or have your child color the paper plates with blue paint.
Cut out circles for the snowman’s body and glue them onto a paper plate. Make the hat, twig arms, and carrot nose and draw in other details.
Older children may want a little challenge, so why not let them make a snowman that can stand on its own? One way to make a snowman is to use toilet paper rolls – flatten them a little so they don’t roll around, cut them and slide a paper plate in.
Add a few pebbles inside the rolls to weigh them down. Secure the paper plates with glue. Tape the “shoes” to the toilet paper rolls to cover the holes.
Another fun way to make a snowman craft is to use two different sized paper plates. Have your child paint the larger plate blue and decorate the smaller plate into a snowman head.
If your child is more creative than doing “regular” crafts, they can use paper plates as a canvas to make a snowman.
