Fall is the best time of year to make some turkey crafts with the kids, and this latest creation is perfect for preschoolers to make.
Don’t you think a classroom display would be awesome with tons of paper turkey crafts? We sure can!
We’ve prepared a printable template that’s helpful when working with younger children whose scissor skills aren’t yet sufficient to cut out circles and detailed shapes.
So use a template for younger kids to color and let older kids cut out their own turkeys from brown paper.
Ready? Let’s make a turkey craft!
How to make a paper turkey craft
What you need:
- brown construction paper OR our printable turkey construction paper template (you can download it at the end of this tutorial)
- a sheet of yellow paper (regular printer paper will do)
- orange paper
- a red paper
- heavier white paper or construction paper
- coloring materials
- scissors (a paper cutter is also handy, especially if you are a teacher and want to prepare this activity for your class)
- glue
Step by step instructions
Print out our paper turkey craft template or cut out a turkey shape from brown paper.
Cut a bunch of yellow paper. The more the merrier!
We love using a paper cutter when cutting paper because it’s really easy and quick, perfect for teachers to prepare this activity for large classes.
No need to be too precise, we cut them to the width of an A4/letter sized sheet of paper and made them about “thumb” wide.
Now move on to the orange paper. Cut, cut, cut.
And finally cut the red paper.
Tape the ends of the paper strips together to form “teardrop” shaped loops.
Now to make the turkey tail. Start with strips of yellow paper and glue them in a semicircle shape.
Now create another semicircle inside the yellow shape with orange stripes.
And one is red.
Color the turkey craft template.
Cut it out.
Glue the turkey legs if you plan to use them.
Apply a generous amount of glue to the back of the turkey and press down onto the tail, leaving the glue to set for a while.
Done!
