Pom Pom Peacock Craft
Materials:
- Turquoise/turquoise yarn (Bernat in Peacock is used in this tutorial)
- Multi-colored yarn (Bernat in Whirlpool is used in this tutorial)
- google eyes
- orange, turquoise, dark blue and green felt
- Feathers
- 2 yellow velvet stems (12 inches long)
- hot glue
- Pencil
- cardboard
- Drag
- My circular pattern, such as a bowl, is 4.5 inches in diameter.
Pom Pom Notes: Body: Used 7″ book. Wrap 50 times with multi-color yarn. Wrap 100 times with teal yarn. Cut book. Cut in half, Stack, hold multi-color yarn together (if desired). Tie in the middle, secure tail, and trim (you can see more details in our pom pom snowman tutorial).
Head: Wrap the blue yarn around 4 fingers (as shown), 100 times. Remove from hand, cut in half and stack the two piles together. Tie in the middle and hold the tail tightly and trim.
To make the Head Thingie (I don’t even know what it’s called!) Cut two yellow velvet stems in half. Fold in half down the middle and using a pencil, roll down the ends. Repeat so you have three folded pieces. Stack them on top of each other and tie at the head with the tail yarn.
Feathers: Draw a half circle onto a piece of cardboard the size of a bowl or cup. My circle was slightly larger than the peacock’s body. Cut it out. Place the cardboard on dark blue felt and cut a piece the same size.
Place the blue felt on top of the green felt and cut a half circle about 1/2″ larger in circumference.
Place the green felt over the green fabric and cut a piece of green fabric about 1/2 inch larger than the green fabric.
You can stack your felt pieces on top of each other and create a little “rainbow”. Place cardboard in between the turquoise and green pieces. Hot glue together.
Place your feathers around the cardboard and hot glue them together. Glue the green and blue pieces to the cardboard. Now you have your feathers back together. The cardboard will provide stability for the feathers.
Attach the head to the body. The easiest way is to place the body on the edge of a table, fluff up the yarn, and place the head on top. Hot glue the head to the body.
Now that your body is standing up, attach the feathers. Apply hot glue to the back of the body and attach the feathers. This will work best if your peacock is sitting down so you can place your feathers flush with the table/surface.
Cut a small triangle beak out of yellow felt. Add two google eyes and the beak and your pom pom peacock is done!
