This is a great addition to story time, especially if your child loves reading (or being read) books about snowmen.
Because these toys are easy to make (and come with both video and photo instructions), this is a great project to do in the classroom – easy and inexpensive.
Are you ready to make your own puppet? Let’s get crafty!
How to make a printable snowman puppet using our template
What you need:
- our printable snowman puppet template (this template is free and you can get it at the end of this tutorial – if you want more puppets, we have a pack of 25 puppets ready for you)
- printer
- paper (we recommend thicker printer paper because it’s easier to color with markers and more durable, but regular printer paper works just as well)
- coloring supplies (crayons, markers, pencils – whatever your child enjoys using most)
- drag
- glue

Or follow the step-by-step instructions below
Print out the snowman puppet template (you can get it at the end of the tutorial).
Color the template. On the paper with the puppet, you only need to color the middle part.
Also, color in the accessories (hat, carrot, and branch). There are two sets of accessories on one sheet of paper, you only need one set for each puppet (we added two sets to make it easier to print in class).
Fold along all the dotted lines on the puppet paper.
Both the horizontal and vertical lines need to be folded.
To ensure sharp folds, we often use a craft stick to stroke over each fold to make them sharper.
Open. Turn the puppet upside down, snowman face toward the table.
Turn the glue side up and apply glue (from top to bottom).
Fold the remaining piece of paper over and press down to set the glue.
Now fold the puppet into an M shape, if your folds are sharp this should be easy, if not you will need to reinforce the folds a bit.
Cut out the accessories.
Glue carrots on for the nose.
Fold the rectangle under the hat (where the hat and rectangle meet), glue the rectangle and glue the hat onto the snowman.
Finally glue the branches on to complete the snowman.
Stick your fingers into the puppet and have fun!
You can do as much as you want!
