Mother’s Day is a great day to make crafts. Every mom deserves a beautiful keepsake gift or card.

When it comes to baby gifts or DIY gifts in general, we love when they are both personal and useful and keychains are just that. This adorable keychain will be used for years to come.

How to Make a Shrinky Dinks Flower Hand Keychain

What you need:

  • Shrinky Dinks Shrink Plastic
  • flower paint
  • green paint
  • yellow paint
  • paint brush
  • hole punching machine
  • optional: transparent sealant

We use acrylic paint, younger children can also use ink.

Step by step instructions

Paint the palm of the hand a floral color (we chose pink).

You can let your child press their fingers into the paint or paint with a paintbrush. Let the paint dry for a while.Paint the stem and leaves with yellow paint. You can also use your thumb to paint.

Dip your fingertip (thumb is best) and press into the center of the palm print twice to form a heart shape.

Cut around the flower.

Punch a hole in the top with a hole punch.

Place in oven. Follow “baking” instructions on Shrinky Dinks Plastic.

Watch it roll and shrink…

Once the cake is flat, remove it from the oven and place it on a flat surface to cool.

To make sure the product would come out straight, we placed another layer of greaseproof paper over the keychain and placed a book on top when we took the keychain out of the oven.

If necessary, apply a coat of clear varnish.
