Silhouette Cat Art Project

If you want to make a simple (and colorful) piece of Halloween art with your kids, try our silhouette car art project! While fun year-round, this game shines during Halloween, especially if you use a color palette that matches the season.

We have a handy template to go with this art lesson but it can be easily done without it.

Although we didn’t, your child can also add a pair of eyes to this cat silhouette.

How to make a cat silhouette art project

What you need:

printable template (optional)
pencil
Coloring supplies (markers are best, crayons are also a great choice)
hand painted black
paintbrush

Step-by-step instructions

Start by printing the grid template or drawing the grid on a piece of paper. We also have a template with a cat silhouette on it.

Have children color each square a different color to create a colorful mosaic. Any color will do, but for a Halloween-themed art project, we think orange, yellow, pink, and purple are great options.

If you are using markers, we strongly recommend using markers to color in the grid, as regular markers will take some time.

First row is done!

Once you’re done coloring, draw the outline of the cat on top of the colored grid with a pencil.

Paint the inside of the cat with black paint.

Slow and steady will get the job done.

Paint the entire silhouette.

You can also outline the edges of the paper with black paint (basically creating a frame).
