Easy Origami Owl for Kids

This is actually my own design and may not be the world’s best origami project for kids but I was looking for a simple tutorial on how to make an origami owl and all the tutorials I found online were pretty difficult for kids to do so it was time to get creative. I hope your kids enjoy these tutorials!

What you need:

  • origami paper
  • bulging eyes
  • optional: glue, corrugated pull

Step by step instructions

Start by folding a square piece of origami paper diagonally. Place the paper as shown below (colored side down).

Start by making the wings. Hold the paper in the direction indicated by the red dot and fold it towards the center – the fold shown in the second image above. Do the same with the other wing.

Now hold the top of the paper (indicated by the purple dot) and fold it down. You can align the top with the wings (but this is not a rule – your child can play with this a bit as it will make each owl look different ;).

Now fold the same section towards the top (as shown in the 2nd and 3rd images in the 2nd row above).

Now let’s make the tail!

Turn your project upside down. Now grab the bottom and fold it up towards the top. Crease it. Now fold it down and you’re done!

Flip your owl upside down over the fake eyes and you will have an adorable origami owl staring back at you! You can leave it as is or add a little glue to a few sections to “flatten” it out a bit.

Origami is more fun for kids
