This simple paper spider craft was inspired by our printable spider hand puppet, a really popular project with preschoolers. We thought these two would make a great team for pretend play – a hand puppet and a puppet on a stick.
Both have hideous wiggle legs that make them truly creepy reptiles.
Are you ready? Let’s get started!
What you need:
Cut paper.
You will need 8 long, thin strips of grey paper to make the spider legs.
You will also need 3 strips of black paper, two thin and one slightly wider.
Fold one of the paper strips in half and apply glue to one half.
Insert a skewer or paper straw into the paper, covering it halfway.
This will be our craft base.
Take one leg and begin folding it – accordion style – in a zigzag pattern from one side of the paper strip to the other.
Repeat with the remaining 7 items.
Glue the feet to the craft base.
Roll and glue the remaining two black paper strips to the paper roll.
Apply a generous amount of glue to the base of the spider craft.
Glue the paper rolls to the craft base, the larger roll on the back and the smaller roll on the front.
Add eyes.
And that’s it, your simple spider craft is done and ready to play.
