What you need:

  • canvas
  • Bottle brush with sponge tip (if working in a team, it’s easiest to use one for each color)
  • various paints – flower colors
  • green marker
  • bowl large enough to dip the bottle brush into

Step by step instructions

Prepare for action:

Draw the stem of the flower on the fabric with a green marker. Draw the grass as well. Older children can do this themselves while younger children may need help.

Pour the paint into bowls. Add a little water to each bowl. It should be a little runny.

Now for the fun part! Take your sponge brush and dip it in one of the colors. We’ll start with yellow…Svg%3E

Press the sponge into the top corner of the fabric – this will create a sunburst effect on your flowers.

If you’re only using one sponge brush, rinse the sponge brush before moving on to the next color and blot away any excess liquid with a towel.

Now let’s make all the little flowers. Dip your brush in the flower paint and dot it on the stem you drew earlier.

Tip: Younger children can work on a white canvas and draw the flower first, then the stem.

This is a great spring art project for preschoolers or toddlers to do in the classroom. It really makes a great display.
