Swirly Squirrel Craft for Kids

Fall is the best time to make all kinds of forest animal crafts, and today we’ll show you how to make super cute swirly squirrel crafts for kids. This is a fun activity that focuses on fine motor skills, as children will need to carefully twist and turn the paper strips to make the squirrel’s tail pop!

What we love most about this project is that you can customize it to suit all ages, make it simple for preschool and kindergarten, or add more challenge by increasing the number of strips paper for older children. Either way, the end result will be amazing.

How to make swirly squirrel crafts for kids

What you need:

  • our printable template (optional) or a hand-drawn squirrel
  • white printing paper
  • cardboard in any color of your choice
  • drag
  • glue

Download the template – let kids add color or use the pre-colored version for instant crafting fun.

Gather colorful strips (we choose orange, cut 4 wide strips) and choose cardboard (we recommend green for the background).

Have children cut out squirrel shapes.

Use a pencil to outline the back of the squirrel, where the tail is located.

Have your child apply glue to the left side of the curve of the pencil.

It’s time to apply all the colored strips for the tail!

Have children make their first roll of paper strips.

Then add glue to the end of the strip.

Press it into the ground and hold it in place for a bit to let the glue set.

Repeat steps with all paper strips to create a bushy tail.

It’s time to glue the squirrel!

All done!
