When it comes to recycled crafts, tin can robots take the prize! There are no rules when it comes to making them so you can use up all sorts of materials.
This is a great classroom craft activity, you can ask students to bring in all sorts of broken materials, packaging or used things like clocks, pens, cans, bolts and screws, broken pieces and let them engage in this really open-ended craft activity.

You may know this little trash-collecting robot called Wall-E, the last robot left on Earth? Remember how he kept tiny metal parts in his house so he could repair himself if he broke? This movie is worth watching before taking on this art project.
For this project, have kids go find some small machine parts, pen twisters, small light bulbs (for older kids only), kitchen scouring pads, and other small pieces of metal, even pieces of plastic.
We will create amazing robot friends and only your imagination is the limit here.
What you need:
Let’s start crafting!
There are thousands of ways you can make a robot out of tin cans, we will show you how we made one.
Put a little glue on the tip of the pen curls… The curls of the pen make beautiful whiskers. The glue dots also help to hold them in place.
…and put them in a tin can.
Use your finger to curl the spiral tip, then apply a little glue to the bulging eyes…
…and place them on the spiral.
Apply a little glue to the metal hex nut and stick it to the tin can.
That will be the nose of our robot.
Using scissors, cut curls from a kitchen sponge, apply a little glue to the ends and stick them onto the tin.
Look at that robot’s curly hair!
Apply glue to two metal circles and place them on the tin can.
That’s the cheek.
Cut a small piece of aluminum foil and stick it on the tin can. That will be the lips.
Finished!
Hope you had fun doing today’s project!
Check out the other robots we’ve created and feel free to use your imagination when creating your own tin can robot friends.
See you soon with more fun crafts!
