We love toilet paper beetles, we’ve made quite a few of them in a variety of shapes and techniques – this ladybug windsock toilet paper bee craft and this toilet paper bee craft are some of our favourites. But there are actually lots of ways you can make a beetle and today we’re going to show you a more open approach.
Provide your child with a variety of supplies…
…and let children be creative in designing the insect they love or imagine.
We are sure that your kids will come up with some amazing creations and to spark their imagination, we will introduce you to 4 interesting bugs.
We will show you step by step how to make a firefly and a beetle, but you can also see a bee and a ladybug.
Then you can do other things yourself.
Quick, grab some toilet paper rolls out of the cupboard and let’s get crafting.
What you need:
Coat toilet paper roll with blue acrylic paint. Let dry.
Paint 3 green stripes onto the green roll of paper. Punch out a green circle with a round hole punch and glue googly eyes on it. Draw a small mouth and tongue. Glue the head to the roll of paper. Cut out two large green wings and two smaller green wings. Attach the wings to the roll of paper with split pins. Cut out 6 green stripes for the legs and 2 green stripes for the antennae.
Stick 6 strips to the body, 3 strips on each side.
Stick the beard on the head.
Coat the roll with black acrylic paint.
Draw a green stripe at the bottom of the paper roll.
Cut out a small green heart and glue it to the roll of paper.
Use a hole punch to punch out a red circle and glue the fake eye on.
Use black eyeliner to draw a small mouth and a tongue.
Stick the head to the body.
Cut out two red wing shapes and attach them to the body with split pins.
Cut 6 red stripes for legs and 2 red stripes for beard.
Stick the legs in, three on each side.
Add 2 antennas.
Done!
Now make these bugs fly by moving their wings.
