Fall brings so many wonderful (and free) crafting materials… There are so many fun things you can create using colorful leaves (have you seen our leaf lion yet?).
We love picking leaves, it feels like we never have enough (even though we have more than we can use) and we love getting creative with them – be it crafts for display like this turkey craft or all sorts of fun decorations.
For this particular project, we used maple leaves in all colors. This project would look great in any color although I have to say, the yellow and red leaves are the prettiest! Of course, you could even color the leaves or add some texture to them with markers to take this craft project idea to the next level.
Ready? Print out our template (which you can find at the end of this tutorial) and get crafting!

Print out our template. We recommend printing on thicker stock as it will hold up better to the moisture of the blue and won’t wrinkle. Plain paper will also work.
There are two pages included, one with just one turkey that can be used as a base (you can skip this one) and one with two turkeys for kids to color and cut out.
Color the turkey. We used markers but any coloring medium is fun – crayons, chalk, colored pencils…
Once you’re done coloring, cut out the turkey and the turkey legs.
Take the remaining turkey paper and apply a generous amount of glue to the tail.
Alternatively, you can just apply the glue to the leaves.
You can cut off the stipules or leave them as is.
Glue the leaves into the turkey mold.
If you want to make a multi-colored turkey tail, we recommend making the base with larger red leaves and placing smaller gold leaves on top.
Continue gluing the leaves to the template, adding glue to the leaves or to the base as you go.
Once you’re happy with the shape of the turkey tail, glue the turkey legs onto the base (you can also glue them directly onto the dyed body, whichever is easier).
Take the colored turkey body, apply a sufficient amount of glue to the back.
Press the turkey body into the base.
Let the glue dry for a while.
And that’s it! You’ve created a fun looking turkey with our Turkey Leaf Craft Template.
