If you want kids to make a memorable Mother’s Day craft, this twist and turn card is a great choice.

You can get templates from our member library which will make the project even easier (the instructions also come with a PDF so this is a great classroom craft activity).

When you open this card, the twist mechanism inside will open and pop out a ❤️ MOM sign (or whatever else your child writes or draws),

How to Make a Twist and Pop Mother’s Day Card

What you need:

Step by step instructions

We have prepared a couple of different versions, one more suitable for home use and one more suitable for classroom use. We are presenting the home version.

Print the template, card page on colored cardstock, and the instructions page and some of the template parts on white (or other light colored) cardstock.

Color the letters (and background if you want).

Cut out the pattern pieces (both sheets).

The card is ready to assemble.

Start by folding the largest rectangle (the one with the two triangles) in half. This will be the base of the card (the triangles should be on the inside).

Next, take the rectangle with 3 parallel dashed lines.

Fold along those dotted lines (W shape).

Fold along all the dashed lines on the final rectangle. Make the folds crisp. Unfold.

Grasp the two ends, pinch them gently and start weaving them together, this move may seem difficult but it is actually very easy.

This is what you will see when you connect the ends together. You can watch the video to see this step clearly.

Now apply glue to the triangular part of the folded paper (one side only)…

…and glue it to the card base (in the designated areas marked with triangles). Apply glue to the other side of the folded paper (in the triangle area).

And close the card. Press down and wait for the glue to dry.

Take a piece of paper and fold it into a W shape and paste the ❤️ MOM image on top.

Open the card base (you will see a cross). Apply glue to the areas marked with the word glue (see image below). If you don’t see the word glue – help yourself with the image below.

Make it stand out

Glue the W-fold onto the card. Set aside to let the glue set.

Redraw two rectangles on scrapbook paper (twice each).

Decorate your card with these images.

The bigger one is on the outside.

Done!

Open the Twist and Pop Mother’s Day card….

…and watch the sign come up!
