Wood Block Penguin Craft

This wood block penguin craft is super easy to make and will look great on your porch (or balcony or wherever) whether you or your kids make it. It’s that easy!

We made a similar block snowman together a while back, and this was the perfect companion.

This cute penguin can be a great Christmas or winter craft for both adults and kids – easy to make, suitable for all ages.

It also solves a major problem… What to do with that empty mitten. Or that empty sock, because socks make the most amazing hats too. Put them all together for this craft project. If you’re one of the “lucky” ones and have tons of empty socks, especially white socks, you can make this awesome sock snowman too. Trust me, you won’t stop at just one.

How to make wooden penguin crafts

What you need:

  • a block of wood (wood chips are best)
  • acrylic paint / craft paint – white, black and orange option
  • black marker
  • glove
  • orange construction paper, scissors, glue
  • ribbon

Step by step instructions

If you are working with scrap wood, do some cleaning first.Paint one side of the block white.

Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

Draw a U shape with a black marker. Draw penguin eyes.

Paint around the U shape with black paint.

Paint all remaining faces of the wood block.

Let the paint dry.

Cut out orange legs and beak and glue onto block.

Alternatively, you can also paint these details with orange craft paint.

Take the glove and place it on the penguin’s head – it may take a little pushing and pulling.

You can use rubber bands and tie them around your “fingers”.

Tie a ribbon around your finger.

Done!

You have made yourself a lovely penguin out of wooden blocks.

Happy crafting!
