Yarn Wrapped Rock Monsters – Rock Crafts

Did you have a pet rock as a kid? I’ve had quite a few but none of them look as silly as these yarn-wrapped rock monsters!

We love stone crafts here, it’s amazing how many cool things you can do with something as simple as a rock.

Stone monster wrapped in yarn

What you need;

  • rocks (can collect them on walks or buy them from stores – craft stores, dollar stores, home and garden stores…)
  • yarn – I really love colorful yarn
  • white school glue
  • sharp eyes
  • black marker
  • drag

If you collect stones from nature, wash them first to remove all dirt and dust that could make the glue less effective. As for the shape of the rocks, it really doesn’t matter that much as all shapes will make fun looking monsters, just make sure the rocks are big enough for kids to easily grasp. easy to hold.

Now that we have our rocks ready, let’s start creating the silly monsters.

We’ll start with the hair. Wrap a sufficient amount of strands around your finger and cut from top to bottom – you will get two monster haircuts. The “hair” in each of those sets should still stick together a bit (this is helpful but not necessary).

Apply a generous amount of glue on top of the rock (one side) and add a strand of hair. Spread the hair strands on the rock and gently press down with your fingers (some strands may fall out). Let dry for a while and do the same with the other side. Let dry.

Now comes the fun wrapping part. Start in the middle by tying the yarn around the rock. Start wrapping the strand towards your hair and add glue. Make sure you also wrap some of your hair (we don’t want those freaky roots showing, do we?). When finished wrapping (you can even double wrap – first up to the “hair” and then back to the middle), apply a generous amount of glue and tie the yarn.

Add some googly eyes and draw a scary, um, silly mouth.
