This 3D paper craft model will take you through the 4 stages of a butterfly’s life cycle…
Adult butterfly
Each quarter of the show is dedicated to one stage, the butterfly stage showing an adult monarch butterfly.
Egg
EggAt the next stage, a leaf full of butterfly eggs will appear.
Caterpillar (larva)
Next we have a caterpillar nibbling on a leaf.
pupa
Before a butterfly becomes beautiful and colorful, there must be a pupa stage.
Rotate the paper butterfly life cycle model and observe all the stages of the process.
How to make 3D butterfly life cycle craft
What you need:
Step by step instructions
Print out the templates – either pre-colored or black and white. If you print the black and white templates, the first thing you need to do is color the templates.
Cut 4 screens with tree branches.
Fold along all the dotted lines.
Makes the folds nice and sharp.
Run your fingers through the folds – the better the folds, the easier the next steps will be.
Apply glue to the area marked with the word glue.
Glue the part that says glue, below the green circle.
The first quarter of your butterfly life cycle model is ready!
Make 3 more.
Now we need to glue them all together, applying glue to a rectangular part of the model.
Glue the two models together.
Add a third one…
And fourth to finalize your 3D model.
While the glue dries, move on to cutting out the butterfly life cycle image.
We have added the names of the stages (two versions for two words), you can also cut them and add them to your model or leave them without word labels.
Let’s start with the eggs! Fold along the dotted lines…
…apply glue to the area marked with the word glue and stick it to one of the 4 models – attach it to the tree branch.
Do the same with the caterpillar.

Done! Your 3D butterfly life cycle model is complete.
