Summer is coming and we are enjoying summer. We are looking forward to sailing on the ocean. We go far away to where there are whales.

Have you ever seen a whale? What a huge creature, right?

They jump out of the water and use their whole body and large tail to splash water back into the water.

That’s because they have spiracles used for breathing.

Today we will make a moving whale and name it Whale Bob.

How to make 3D paper whale crafts

What you need:

  • letter / A4 colored paper (use any color you like)
  • Hardcover
  • 1 tube cleaner or googly eye
  • drag
  • glue
  • glue (hot glue or glue sticks both work)
  • circular ruler
  • pencil

Materials used

Let’s get started!

Step by step instructions

Take a piece of colored paper and fold it into a square.

Step 1

Cut off excess paper.

Open the square and fold the triangles into two equal pieces.

Step 2

Unfold the triangle and fold the square again.

Step 3

Start cutting along the fold line as shown.

Step 3-1

Be careful not to cut into the fold.

Step 3-2

Apply a little glue to the outside of the triangle fold…

Step 4

…and glue the two triangles together.

Now we have the whale carcass.

Step 4-1

Cut a circle in the upper body…

…so the tip doesn’t look too sharp.

Draw and cut out a jaw shape and a tongue shape.

Step 6

Glue them together and then glue the jaw part to the inside of the body.

Make two circles and glue them on top.

Step 7

Use cotton swabs to make two small circles, apply glue and place on the circle.

Step 8

Draw a rounded rectangle.

Step 9

Cut in half and glue the pieces to the sides of the body.

And let it dry a bit.

Fold a piece of paper in half, draw half a heart shape and cut it out.

Step 10

Open it up and put it in like a tail.

Step 10-1

Draw a comb-like shape on blue cardboard and use scissors to make 6 cuts.

Step 11

Start rolling the paper strips up.

Tape the two ends of the sprinkler together.

Step 11-2

Use hot glue to attach the water jet to the top of the head.

Step 12

Let the glue dry.

Whale Your 3D paper whale is ready to move and glide across the water!
