How to make honeycomb bubble wrap crafts
What you need:
- pencil
- drag
- glue
- bubble wrap
- yellow paint
- paint brush
- White paper
- black cardboard
- colored paper (yellow and blue)
- black marker
Step-by-step instructions
Hive
To start, you will need a blank sheet of paper. You can use regular printer paper, but using cardboard or children’s art paper would be a better choice.
Now comes the bubble wrap. It can be as big as a piece of paper or it can be smaller, both work well.
If you have smaller pieces, your child will need to “seal” them multiple times.
Use yellow paint to color the bubble wrap. We use steam acrylic paint (this causes the paint to dry more slowly). Other types of paint also work.
Now comes the fun part!
Press the bubble wrap onto the paper (or press the paper onto the bubble wrap) to print.
Run your hand over the paper or bubble wrap to ensure prints are created.
It’s time to take off the bubble wrap.
The white paper must now be full of yellow dots.
Cut hexagons out of bubble wrap printer paper.
We handcrafted the honeycomb bubble wrap on black paper as it provides a nice contrast to the printed hexagons but other colors can also be used.
Apply glue to the hexagons or to the background paper and stick the printed hexagons onto the background.
Fit as many as you want on the background. You can leave the spaces blank.
Bee
The hive needs some bees! There are many ways you can make them – you can even add a toilet paper roll bee to this project.
We will show you how to make a simple one out of paper.
Cut a small circle from yellow paper (you can also use a circle paper punch). Add two googly eyes or two small white circles.
Use a marker to draw all the details – lines, mouth (finish the eyes if needed).
The bee still lacks wings. Ask children to cut two teardrop shapes from blue paper and glue them to the bee.
To create another bee, have them follow the same steps as before.
Glue propolis to the nest.
Aren’t they adorable?
