Cardboard Butterfly Color Matching Activity

Imagine completing this craft to help your child learn colors. This cardboard butterfly coloring activity is the perfect activity to do with your child!

Not only is creating butterflies fun, but when you add colors to it, this craft becomes even more amazing.

When it comes to learning colors, most children tend to start around 18 months. However, this is an activity that you can continue to do with your child until they are 2, 3, 4, and 5 years old! If you are looking for a fun color matching activity, this is the one for you!

For older kids, you can also change the bottom color to the color of the words or even the beginning sound!

How to create this cardboard butterfly coloring activity

What you need:

  • Cardboard (blue, orange, yellow, purple, pink and green paper)
  • Badminton
  • Pencil
  • Black Marker Pen
  • Glue
  • Drag

Step by step instructions

Take some cardboard and draw a cute butterfly on it. This is also a great time to gather all of your materials, so you have everything at hand.

Now you will draw small circles on the butterfly wings.

Now you will cut out those circles.

Cut a strip of blue paper into squares to glue to the back of the butterfly for matching colors.

Go ahead and make some squares!

Cut out one or two orange squares.

Continue cutting out a few yellow squares.

Cut a strip of purple paper into squares to glue to the back of the butterfly for matching colors.

Don’t forget the pink squares!

Oh, and this turquoise!

Now you will carefully glue the squares to the back of the cut out cardboard.

As you can see, adding squares to the back of the cardboard is a fun activity.

From the front, this is the most colorful butterfly you’ll ever see!

Now you can practice attaching matching pom poms to the butterfly.
