Whether you like winter or not, snowmen are definitely a fun part of winter – I don’t really like this cold time of year, I can’t even imagine running around in the snow and throwing snowballs as a kid, somehow not realizing it was cold… But even as an adult, I still enjoy making snowmen… And throwing a snowball or two, as long as it doesn’t get “returned to sender” 😛.
Let’s make a cotton snowman craft!
What you need
- cotton ball
- white paper (letter size)
- Larger green paper for the background, preferably construction paper
- glue (we used school white glue)
- drag
- decorations – buttons, sequins, scrap paper, popsicle sticks, tassels, fabric, craft foam… Whatever you can find, choose age-appropriate decorations (larger for toddlers and preschoolers, smaller for older kids).
Start by cutting out a snowman shape from a sheet of white paper.
Apply a generous amount of glue to the snowman shape. Start placing cotton balls until you have filled the entire shape. You can let it dry a little.
Add decorations.
We used two popsicle sticks for the hands, buttons for the eyes and buttons, black sequins for the mouth, cut carrots from orange craft foam, and made hats from red craft foam and decorated them with white thumbprints.
Now all that’s left is to glue the snowman onto the green background and display your artwork. Of course, you can also let kids create snowflake shapes on the background with their fingers.
To go with this cotton snowman craft, I chose this cute book! You can read the book with your child and then create this book together.
